The Malda Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) was established in 2005 under the administrative control of Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya(UBKV). It is one of the innovative institutions with the mandate of imparting vocational training to the practicing farmers including farm women, youth and extension functionaries in improved technologies in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries and other allied enterprises.

Malda KVK, has been started its functions with the responsibilities to upgrade agricultural as well as rural development in the countryside through its mandated activities on Training, Frontline Demonstration and On Farm Testing/Adaptive trials. In fact, KVK has been conceived to perform as a lighthouse for the district as a whole. In conformity with the assigned responsibilities, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra has already started its operational activities, but in a modest scale. As a basic precondition to work for the rural people in an effective manner, the KVK undertook exploratory study on the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and perceived threats in terms of agriculture and its allied branches of the rural Malda.
