Malda Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)
Established in 2005 under the administrative control of Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya (UBKV), the Malda Krishi Vigyan Kendra is an innovative institution dedicated to empowering rural communities. Its primary mandate is imparting vocational training to practicing farmers, farm women, youth, and extension functionaries in advanced technologies across agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and allied enterprises.
Malda KVK serves as a “lighthouse” for the district, driving agricultural upgrading and rural development through targeted training, Frontline Demonstrations (FLDs), and On-Farm Testing (OFT) or adaptive trials. To maximize impact, the KVK consistently conducts exploratory studies analyzing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and perceived threats (SWOT) specific to rural Malda’s agricultural landscape.
Key Activities and Objectives
As an active part of the UBKV network, the Malda KVK carries out several vital functions:
- Vocational Training Programs: Organized specifically for farmers, farm women, and rural youth focusing on modern agricultural topics.
- On-Farm Trials (OFT): Conducted to systematically test, evaluate, and refine new agricultural technologies under local micro-farming conditions.
- Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs): Arranged to showcase the production potential of newly released crop varieties and technologies directly on fields.
- Technical Support & Diagnostic Services: Provided to local farmers for real-time problem solving regarding crops, soils, and livestock health.
